Can a DGX Spark run 24/7?

By Samuel Seidel · Published October 19, 2026 · Updated 28 October 2026

Yes. Owners run Sparks around the clock for months, and NVIDIA's warranty terms describe the machine as a small-scale server. Give it a room between 5 and 30 °C, open air around it and a wired connection, and it makes a good always-on machine that idles at 22 to 37 W. And a Spark that is on anyway can earn: list it on GPUwerk Platform and keep $0.55 of every rented hour.

How do owners run a DGX Spark around the clock?

In racks and on desks, for months. In a July 2026 NVIDIA forum thread, one owner reported his Spark running 24/7 in a rack since November without overheating or a crash. Another runs four units 24/7, including six- to seven-day quantisation runs at full clock. What the stable machines share is simple: space around them, a cool room and often a modest GPU clock cap.

How much does it cost to run a DGX Spark 24/7?

Idle, very little. Tom's Hardware measured 22 to 37 W on a Founders Edition (12 February 2026), about €5 to €8 a month at the EU household price of €0.2896 per kWh. During LLM inference ServeTheHome measured 60 to 90 W. The ceiling is the 240 W power supply in NVIDIA's hardware documentation. More in the power cost guide.

Is it worth it to run a DGX Spark 24/7 for rent?

Yes. Every rented hour turns into about €0.46 after its extra electricity, and GPUwerk's own Spark fleet averages 92% utilisation. At 90% your Spark nets about €295 a month.

Your Spark, on 24/7Rented hours a monthYour 70%ElectricityNet a month

Your 70% of $0.79 per rented hour at 1.1253 US dollars per euro (ECB, 16 October 2026). Electricity at €0.2896 per kWh: 37 W idle, and the GB10's full 140 W TDP while rented, above the 60 to 90 W measured during inference. Net is before tax. Try your own numbers in the earnings calculator.

Where should an always-on Spark sit?

Can I run a DGX Spark at a lower GPU clock to save power?

Yes, and you lose little. Owners lock the clock range with nvidia-smi -lgc. One owner swept 17 settings on two Sparks (August 2026): at 1,400 MHz, decode speed fell 7%, from 51.34 to 47.74 tokens per second, while wall power for both machines dropped from 330 W to 234 W. Prompt processing slows more, since it is compute-bound.

Why does my DGX Spark shut down under sustained load?

A small number of owners report sudden power-offs under long, heavy loads. The longest thread on it suggests a clock cap and more clearance. If it keeps happening, treat it as a fault: NVIDIA asks for Field Diagnostics logs, and several owners got an RMA.

Why does my DGX Spark suspend or drop SSH when headless?

On the stock DGX OS desktop, the GNOME login screen applies its own power settings when nobody is logged in and can suspend the machine after about 20 minutes. Turning off suspend for the gdm user with gsettings fixes it (forum fix, July 2026). A Wi-Fi connection created under one user's account can also drop when that session idles out, so use a cable. Check after a few idle hours with journalctl -b | grep -i suspend.

Does the DGX Spark support Wake-on-LAN?

No. An NVIDIA moderator confirmed it in October 2025, even though ethtool lists the capability. Owners use a smart plug instead: shut down from the OS, cut power, and switch the plug back on to boot, with the BIOS set to power on when AC is restored. NVIDIA's moderator called power-strip switching fine occasionally but not ideal long-term.

Should I leave my DGX Spark idle or power it off?

Leave it on. Idle costs a few euros a month, there is no Wake-on-LAN to bring it back, and an always-on Spark is ready for overnight jobs, or to earn while it is idle.

Does running it 24/7 or hosting it affect the DGX Spark warranty?

Check your maker's terms. NVIDIA's Founders Edition warranty (read October 19, 2026) runs one year for the original buyer and covers defects under normal use; use for large-scale datacenter or GPU cluster commercial deployments voids it. Other makers publish their own terms. In the EU you also have a legal guarantee of at least two years against a business seller (Your Europe). This is general information, not legal advice.

What changes when it is listed on GPUwerk Platform?

Your always-on Spark starts earning. Demand for GB10 time is high: GPUwerk's own Spark fleet averages 92% utilisation, and that is why we are adding partner machines. You keep 70% of what renters pay: $0.55 per rented hour at the $0.79 Partner Spark price, paid monthly in EUR, in CZK, or through Wise. Earnings depend on renter demand and are not guaranteed.

How payouts work: renters can choose your Spark directly as a partner node, any-location bookings go to EEA partner machines once GPUwerk's own Sparks are in use, and a Spark outside the EEA is rented by renters who choose its country. Trial usage (it can run on your Spark, unpaid), the part of a rental paid with promotional credit and your own use are not paid. If a rented Spark is unreachable more than 15 minutes in a row, or you unlist or switch it off, you lose the last 24 hours of that rental and keep the earlier hours. You pay your own electricity and internet; the hardware stays your property and risk.

FAQ

Can a DGX Spark run 24/7?

Yes. Owners on NVIDIA's forum run Sparks around the clock for months, in racks and on desks. Give it a room between 5 and 30 °C, open air around it and a wired connection.

Does the DGX Spark support Wake-on-LAN?

No. An NVIDIA forum moderator confirmed in October 2025 that the Spark does not support Wake-on-LAN, even though ethtool lists the capability. Owners use a smart plug with the BIOS set to power on when AC returns, after shutting down from the OS.

Why does my DGX Spark suspend when running headless?

Usually the GNOME login screen, which applies its own power settings when nobody is logged in and can suspend the machine after about 20 minutes. Turning off suspend for the gdm user fixes it, and a wired connection avoids Wi-Fi drops.

Does running a DGX Spark 24/7 or renting it out void the warranty?

Check your maker's terms. NVIDIA's Founders Edition warranty covers defects under normal use for one year for the original buyer, and excludes large-scale datacenter or GPU cluster commercial deployments. On GPUwerk Platform the hardware stays the owner's property and risk.

What happens if a listed Spark goes offline during a rental?

If it is unreachable for more than 15 minutes in a row during a rental, the owner loses the last 24 hours of that rental's earnings and keeps the earlier hours; the renter is credited in full. Suspend, power-strip timers and Wi-Fi drops count.
